(WIM) Foundation<\/a> will honor Paso Pacifico by purchasing certified carbon offset credits and by donating to our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pasopacifico.org\/combating-climate-change.html\">Return to Forest<\/a> project.<\/p>\n<p>We were thrilled to receive notification of this honor, along with an invitation to attend a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservation.org\/learn\/climate\/solutions\/mitigation\/Pages\/climate_REDD.aspx\">REDD+<\/a> special event at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/\">IPCC<\/a>&nbsp;summit in Copenhagen next month. The WIM Foundation exists to &#8220;help protect habitat and safeguard biodiversity through diverse public education and awareness efforts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>An example of their awareness efforts is founder <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birds.cornell.edu\/roundrobin\/2009\/09\/23\/maya-lins-what-is-missing-project-uses-lab-sound-video\/\">Maya Lin&#8217;s What is Missing? memorial<\/a>, &#8220;a tribute to vanished (and vanishing) parts of our natural world and a call to action to help reverse the trends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to connecting with our fellow WIM Foundation honorees:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Wangari Maathai and the Sankuru \u201cFair Trade\u201d Community Carbon Initiative in the Democratic Republic of Congo&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Jane Goodall and her new forest offset project in the Gombe Chimpanzee Reserve in Tanzania<\/li>\n<li>Chief Almir and the indigenous Surui reforestation effort in the Brazilian Amazon<\/li>\n<li>Iman Sapari and the Yayorin Orangutan habitat protection project in Indonesia<\/li>\n<li>Tengchong Conservation Carbon Project in the Yunnan Province of China<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The WIM Foundation will honor Paso Pacifico founder Dr. Sarah Otterstrom because they consider the Return to Forest project to be &#8220;an exemplary model of forest-offset projects that help tackle climate change, protect biodiversity, and advance the well being of local communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are so pleased to learn that the What is Missing?
